Over the last 20 years Ashley has plotted all of the ancient chapels, churches and castles built in Caithness between the 8th and 19th century. Many of the holy buildings were aligned towards the sun rise on the saint day, of whom a building was dedicated. Many of the buildings are aligned to Caithness's most predominant hills and landscape features. This project explores the relationship between historical landscapes and the iconography of real world maps by interpreting and presenting ancient landscape alignments in artistic formats - hand drawn sacred geometric principals on paper maps.
