Ashley was raised in Caithness on the north east coast of Scotland and in his mid-20s delivered a series of highly acclaimed lectures on the international Science Festival Circuit featuring about his own research and discoveries in the Neolithic north, and he’s since written four bestselling non-fiction books.

As one of Scotland’s most prominent Historians Ashley is a member of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, incorporated by Royal Charter in 1783, and he became resident Historian on STV’s The Hour Show in 2012. He has since written and presented 46 episodes of STV’s The People’s History Show’, produced and presented NBC’s Universal’s hit-adventure show ‘Legend Quest’ following his global hunt for lost sacred artifacts.

In North America Ashley features on PBS’s hit-documentary Great Estates of Scotland, listed on Amazon’s top-ten “most downloaded documentaries 2016,” watched by an estimated 150 million people. So far in 2019 Ashley has featured on Discovery Channel’s Expedition Unknown and Mummies Unwrapped and is currently filming new documentaries.
